Linda Wood has been the director of the God’s Community Gardens aka Methodist Community Garden since 2008. Under her leadership, the garden has increased its yield of fresh vegetables and herbs every year to be given away to people in need. She had secured grants to install three greenhouses and a new artesian well as well as built raised gardens to accommodate the handicapped volunteers. Flowers are also grown and arranged in vases for weekly deliveries to local nursing facilities. From June-September, Linda manages the Florence Gray Center Farm Stand in Newport.
Peggy Hanney is the garden manager at God’s Community Garden & manages the Portsmouth UMC Farm Stand . Every week she organizes the volunteers to harvest and package vegetables and herbs for distribution to the four Farm Stands on the island.
